When we were making the JavaRebel AI joke the SkyNet was originally supposed to be downloaded from microsoft.com (for obvious reasons?). However in an interesting revelation we found out that microsoft.com domain was exempt from any overriding via /etc/hosts. The IP kept resolving to Microsoft servers. Therefore the up-and-coming “do no evil” Google got the leading role. If you are interested how we did it just take a look at this script (we went through Bash and PHP before settling on Perl).
